The Development Farm’s dedicated and singularly coordinated rearing and trials team as well as extensive housing investment alongside controlled variables has enabled a unique trials experience within research and development.
Uniquely, Long Lane is considered one of the only controlled platforms for research and development that runs concurrently as a commercial enterprise. Working closely with world renowned pharmaceutical companies and industry partners Synergy Vets, research trials are designed with both science and on-farm practicality in mind. These partnerships provide the expertise, knowledge, and the required analysis to translate research findings into commercially viable industry developments.
In search of unbiased information and evidence-based facts, Buitelaar trial results have driven reductions in antibiotics, proven the viability and value of sustainably sourced feeds and helped develop natural remedies.
Buitelaar are also responsible for delivering the world’s first 42-day immunoglobin test to certify calf colostrum intake, a ground-breaking innovation, which allows for increased transparency between dairy and beef farmer.

Heavily invested in knowledge transfer, Buitelaar works closely with farmers to strengthen animal husbandry across the industry and encourages the use of natural remedies where possible to reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This led to the implementation of the Buitelaar Natural Health product offering, allowing farmers a more natural way to both help prevent and treat illness at the first signs of distress.
We pride ourselves on our full transparency and regularly invite our supply chain farmers on tours and educational workshops in which rearers are encouraged to shadow Long Lane’s experienced rearing team to understand Buitelaar’s rearing protocols and enhance their knowledge pool.
In addition, Buitelaar’s Long Lane Development Farm also offers the opportunity for practical on-farm training for farmers, vets, students and industry professionals alike and acts as blueprint for future farming generations and sustainable food production.
At a time where the effect of farming on the environment has come under considerable scrutiny in the public eye, we have and will continue to make every effort to contribute to the offsetting of emissions and showcase best practice to industry. As such, we are working our way towards a ‘zero-carbon’ farm; continually considering and addressing environmental concerns with sustainable solutions where possible.
