Cattle Integration helps to sustain potato soils.

Regenerative Beef Production with Buitelaar Agriculture

At Buitelaar Group, we support British farmers in adopting innovative, regenerative practices that deliver both environmental and economic value. Our integrated dairy-to-beef supply chain model enables arable and mixed farms to introduce livestock efficiently, sustainably, and profitably – without the high risks and upfront costs traditionally associated with beef production.

By partnering with farms like JR Scale & Co in Pembrokeshire, we supply weaned dairy-beef calves bred from premium sires for rearing on-farm. These cattle are reared under a flexible, open-book bed-and-breakfast system—meaning the farm doesn’t own the animals, but contributes feed, care, and bedding, with financial returns based on liveweight gain. This removes six-figure capital barriers while allowing farmers to benefit from expert guidance and achieve high-spec finished beef (500kg liveweight) by 23 months of age.

Our regenerative approach centres around improving soil health. The introduction of livestock, alongside herbal leys, helps enhance soil structure, organic matter, and long-term productivity – key for farmers looking to build resilience and improve output from existing land. This strategy is proving especially valuable for root crop growers seeking healthier soils and higher-quality produce.

At Buitelaar, we believe regenerative farming isn’t a fixed blueprint but a pragmatic, tailored journey. We help farmers find what works best for their land, operations, and future.
